'Elite'
To be honest there is not much to write about the space game 'Elite'. You fly around in space shooting asteroids and other space ships until it's over; and to this increasingly middle aged man it's not much to look at either. Yellow wiry frames spin around the screen in utter blackness. So why bother do a blog about it? Well, let me take you back to the early 90's when I was a child, where life was new and videogames had only just been invented.
I played this game with my dad and my sister and as one of them played it I sat at the back pretending the whole living room was a space ship. It was one of the best games ever. The sheer joy of pretending to be in space was exhilirating because your life was on the line. It was fun and exciting, a real thrill. It sparked off a huge imaginaion in me, which I've managed to keep ever since.
I still pretend my living room is a space ship when I crack on some ambient star video on YouTube and make out I'm Captain Kirk on a very long voyage into unknown destinations. But unlike William Shatner I am very unlikely to go into space myself; I mean I like the Earth, it has everything you need, including videogames like 'Elite'.
